Change is wonderful to talk about, but no one really wants it. We simply are more comfortable with what we know. Change will only come with a traumatic shock to the system which will force the reality that we must renew our institutions and thinking. I agree about term limits, but that is simply nibbling around the edges and not fundamental change. T. Jefferson recognized the “change” problem and mused about a bloody revolution every couple of generations. Our society will go through its growth/maturity/decline phases as has every other society. The Rep’s and Dem’s are simply a manifestation of our problems of affluence and indolence and neither a Chicago machine politician or a long term senator is going to introduce real change. Real change would preclude both and require fiscal responsibility. Not much hope of any of this.

Dear Chris,
It is difficult to argue against your comments. I get the feeling that no matter whom is elected, it will mean inertia with a few occasional Band-Aids.
Government programs seek to sooth angry voters instead of dealing with the cause and finding a solution to expected and unexpected problems.
Crisis normally does change one’s direction and that works for individuals and for countries.
