Dear Marcie,

I agree 100% and it seems the commercials continually target a dumber audience. I have never had the 4 hour problem but just in case, can I have your home phone number.

Dear Joe,

I must be a subliminal target because after watching every one of the pharmaceutical commercials I believe that I have the precise affliction that their medication can cure. The drug companies have replaced cigarettes and liquor advertising after the latter two items were banned. I am not sure if the FCC made a good or bad deal.

I haven’t researched it but I once read only the United States and New Zealand allow pharmaceutical advertising on television. I would be delighted to leave the privilege to New Zealand only.

Regards,
Lou

I hope that you have recovered. Cable TV has created no end of "water cooler" topics. My favorites are those from pharmaceutical companies. They have beautiful people playing doctors and patients promoting all kinds of medical “fixes.” These commercials are well acted, expensively produced and contain the input of a gaggle of Ivy League educated lawyers. Every commercial ends with a lengthy list of possible side-effects which a patient may experience as a result of taking the 21st Century medical “miracle." I can't be the only viewer that concludes that living with the affliction is much better than dealing with the side-effects.

You betcha beware. Television commercials are insidious thieves robbing the unwary of their common sense. I'm surprised you didn't comment on the pharmaceutical industry's license to promote addiction. A note about Viagra...has anyone actually called their doctor for an erection lasting more than four hours?
I hope you're feeling better and have turned off the television.
Love,
Marcie

In 2020, the Khalid Sheikh Mohammad (KSM) trial will still be on-going. Despite the attempted efforts to intimidate the families of the jurors and the federal judge, Micheal Bloomberg, NYC mayor serving his 6th term, insists that "Security is not a problem. The families of the jurors are overreacting." When asked about the cost of security for the City of New York, originally estimated at $100,000,000 and currently approaching $800,000,000, Bloomberg replied that, "American justice is expensive and the taxpayers must just suck it up." Bloomberg did not comment on the death of the fifth juror since the trial began. Meanwhile, the New York Times has published the sixth KSM manifesto on the front page. This was made possible by the government bailout of 126 newspapers around the country. These bailouts were authorized by executive order, the final act of former president, Barack Obama, in late January 2013.

I just read your recent blog and the response you recieved. First, very well written and accurate. Second, it's a shame the one reply you get is from one of the few people who believes Rich is above any repercussions. After all, Clinton said so. Lets just wait a little longer while these people vote away all our freedoms then we can just call the new world police to deal with these radicals that think that have a right to an opinion. I'm sure we have pictures and tapes on him. where did you say he lived??

Lou--You are certainly on the point as to the results of sanctions. However, I do not think you have gone far enough. The problem is the inadequacy of the sanctions. We allow food and medicines, but sanction weapons. Since these selective sanctions are impossible to enforce we do nothing to deal with the problem, but can feel good about ourselves. We talk about tough love for a our children, but do not have the guts to impose tough love when it is a matter of life and death. Sanctions should be TOTAL and we would be in a better position to enforce them. The sanctioned parties would then more likely feel the impact. I once heard a report that Doctors without Borders actually did more harm than good. It freed the men to make war when the rest of world cared for their families. Again, we feel good about ourselves, but in truth merely increase the horror and suffering. We need to have the courage and diligence to think through the effects of our actions and not simply be motivated by the proposed good we intend. We need to be sure that the likely effect will result in more good than harm. To just act to feel good about ourselves is hypocritical and maybe just plain evil.
